telexnet
Worldwide Telex Service

Graphnet continues to provide worldwide telex connectivity for both interactive and store and forward services. As an FCC licensed carrier, Graphnet is dedicated to the security and reliability of its global telex network and maintains operating agreements with multiple international administrations.

FCC Carrier
Active in the messaging services business since 1968, Graphnet was licensed as a common carrier by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 1974, becoming the first value-added communications carrier to offer services in the United States. In 1977, Graphnet became the first new international Record Carrier to be licensed by the FCC, extending its telex services to all western European nations. The FCC specifically cited Graphnet's "proven capability and expertise" in granting authority for Graphnet to extend its activities into the international marketplace and "make available to the public the benefits inherent in [its] service offering."

Real Time Telex: Freedom Network
Developed by Graphnet, Freedom Network was the world's first high-speed, packet-switched telex network. Today it handles both inbound and outbound telex messaging with a full range of enhanced features including:
  • Answerback verification
  • Password access required for sign on
  • Mnemonic addressing with English words, not just numbers
  • Multiple alias IDs for a single account
  • Alternate destinations
  • Call forwarding
  • Camp-on, for delivery to busy addresses
  • Automatic redial and delivery
  • Message confirmation
  • Departmental billing
  • Segmented billing
  • Telex numbers and mailboxes
  • Operator intervention for message repair and manual delivery

Freedom Network employs automatic least-cost routing via redundant paths to minimize costs and to minimize or eliminate the effects of high-speed line impairments. In addition, Graphnet, along with partners and affiliate PTTs, is continually upgrading the company's real time telex network through improved network infrastructure and switching platforms. Graphnet is the only worldwide carrier committed to this ongoing effort.

Applications
In order to meet the challenges of dynamic technology environments, Graphnet is continually developing new and improved application solutions to interface with its global telex network.

Host400 is a powerful software package that runs on any IBM AS/400 mid-range computing system. The Host400 gateway allows users with high volume, mission-critical messaging requirements to access Graphnet's fax and telex services from Host400 menus, spool files, Office-Vision or any other AS/400-based application. The software automatically retrieves, stores and displays document delivery or cancellation messages so that users can easily view the status of their fax or telex messages. Access is available via dial-up, X.25, SDLC/SNA or ISDN at speeds of up to 64Kbps.

GDC Telex, Graphnet's desktop telex software packgage, offers users the reliability and security of telex messaging from the convenience of the PC. Both the standalone and the LAN package provide real time and store and forward outbound service through Graphnet's worldwide telex network, as well as the added benefit of fax and inbound telex capabilities. Message windows on the main menu include an Inbox, Outbox, Verification Queue and Archive Folder. These advanced features allow the user to resend or forward messages to new addresses, verify or abort messages and archive to disk or folder.

MegaFax for Notes links Lotus Notes desktops to Graphnet's fax and telex networks. Each Lotus Notes user is empowered to send and receive faxes and telexes from Notes Mail with access to all of the value-added features of Graphnet's enhanced services. Connectivity is available either via a dedicated TCP/IP link or through the Internet with no additional hardware or software to install and maintain.

Web2Telex is Graphnet's online connection to enhanced telex services. Customers can register and send faxes and telexes by accessing the web2fax home page at www.web2fax.com. From the ease of a standard World Wide Web connection, users are enabled to communicate with those destinations not yet reachable through email.

Network Operations
In order to provide customers with uninterrupted, quality service, Graphnet maintains operations supervision and customer service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Both real time and store and forward networks are redundant and globally distributed and are managed utilizing state-of-the-art equipment in the United States and Europe.
